Launch of the equine influenza vaccination module in FEI HorseApp

The FEI has introduced a new requirement this year for recording Influenza vaccinations.  After February 3rd, all FEI registered horses need to have their vaccinations recorded on the FEI HorseApp at the time of vaccination by your vet when they attend the horse.

Implementation Date:

Starting February 3, 2025, all influenza vaccinations must be recorded on the FEI HorseApp.

Recording Requirements:

Vaccinations must be recorded by the veterinarian on the day of administration, including the vaccine name and batch number.

Historical Data Entry:

Users can enter historical vaccination data via the app, either themselves or by the vet, before the next vaccination date.

Passport Requirement:

The horse passport must be present at the time of vaccination.

Compliance Checks:

FEI vets will verify vaccination status via the app at competitions.

Automatic Reminders:

The app will send reminders when vaccinations are near expiration to ensure compliance with vaccination requirements.

Non-FEI Veterinarian Access:

Veterinarians not registered with the FEI can also enter vaccination data after completing a short online course.

NOSEBAND TIGHTNESS CONTROL

  • The FEI has implemented new regulations regarding the allowed tightness of nosebands.
  • The FEI is introducing a measuring device to be inserted in the noseband to determine if it is overly tight. Implementation will begin on 1st May 2025.
  • The FEI Measuring Device is a pass-through tool that is inserted under the noseband, over the nasal bone, and drawn through from top to bottom. The test is quick and straightforward, taking only a few seconds to complete.
  • According to the FEI General Rules, excessively tightened noseband(s), as determined by an FEI approved Measuring Device, shall incur the following consequences:
  • Pre-Competition:  The Horse and Athlete combination is not permitted to start unless the noseband is re-adjusted to allow enough laxity.
  • During the Competition:  The Horse and Athlete combination is eliminated from the competition in question, and the Athlete is issued with a Yellow Warning Card.
